Research is a fundamental component of MSH's overall concept. The various focal points within the university's health research are based on the bio-psycho-social model of health and illness conceived by the WHO. This combines the major areas of study at MSH: medicine (BIO), psychology/education (PSYCHO) and social work (SOCIAL) as well as research perspectives from the various disciplines on the common subject.
The research work at MSH is based on the fundamental conviction of all members of the university that the current challenges in society and in the health and education system require a cross-disciplinary and cross-professional approach in science and practice.
Research at MSH combines basic research and translational research with prevention, intervention and healthcare research, which takes place across disciplines, faculties and departments. Research also takes place in cooperation with the MSH teaching and research outpatient clinics, such as the MSH Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic, the training institute outpatient clinic of the HIP Hafencity Institute for Psychotherapy and the MSH University Outpatient Clinic for Sports and Exercise Medicine including physiotherapy practice.
From the very first day of their studies, students are encouraged to develop their own research skills with research-related questions and impulses and are increasingly given the opportunity to be involved in the university's research activities throughout their studies.
University-wide compliance with the guidelines of good scientific practice guarantees free, independent, autonomous and critical research. MSH regularly undergoes the DFG review process and is therefore fully eligible to apply for DFG research funding. In addition, the principles and measures of the Open Science movement are also taken into account whenever practicable.
