Artistic therapies (music, dance, art) as a preventive measure in the development of children

The overall objective of the project is to offer artistic therapies for children in difficult circumstances in the sense ofpreventive development promotion and to provide scientific support. The total duration of the project is three years.

The following programmes are to be included:

  • Bachelor courses: Art, Music and Dance Therapy
  • Master's programs: Intermedial Art Therapy

The target group consists of children whose families receive family support but who are not offered further therapeuticsupport, for example by the Youth Welfare Office. Since these children have a high need for support, may manifestthemselves in long-term consequences for their further development and the intergenerational transmission of learnedhelplessness and disadvantage of opportunities is to be broken, this project is aimed at this target group. Artistic therapiesare particularly suitable, as communication via language may be difficult. Artistic therapies offer different media, so thatcontact can be actively established through different means. Group services are also easier to implement because: a common language is available to the media, for example when children have different cultural and mother tongue backgrounds.

As these are children whose needs have been identified but who have not yet been diagnosed, the service is a preventiveservice. The service can be described as promoting development through artistic media. The aim is to increase resilience so that mental disorders and other abnormalities do not manifest.
