Im Fokus steht die Analyse des Zusammenspiels von Umgebungsfaktoren, menschlichem Erleben und Verhalten.
Menschliches Erleben und Verhalten entspringt dispositionellen Merkmalen, wird aber auch durch die umgebenden Kontexte beeinflusst. Gleichzeitig beeinflussen Menschen durch ihr Verhalten ihre Umwelt. So sind Vorurteile und Diskriminierung nicht nur ein Resultat von Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen, sondern auch Ausdruck spezifischer Gruppenkonstellationen und gesellschaftlicher Zusammenhänge. Arbeitsumgebungen beeinflussen individuelle Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden, technologische Entwicklungen beeinflussen alltägliche Lebensumwelten.
Das Institut trägt zu Beantwortung zentraler und aktueller gesellschaftlicher Fragen bei.
- Wie kann die Akzeptanz umweltfreundlicher Technologien und Lebensweisen gefördert werden?
- Welche Faktoren können zu einer Reduktion von Diskriminierung beitragen?
- Wie können öffentliche und private Räume menschenwürdig gestaltet werden?
- Wie kann Arbeit gesundheitsförderlich gestaltet werden?
Die Mitglieder des Instituts beteiligen sich explizit am Forschungstransfer in Politik, Gesellschaft und Organisationen.
Forschung
Die Mitglieder des Instituts forschen grundlagen- und anwendungsorientiert.
Im Fokus steht die Analyse des Zusammenspiels von Umgebungsvariablen, menschlichem Erleben und Verhalten in drei Kontexten:
a) Menschen und ihre (gebaute) Umwelt,
b) Menschen in sozialen Gruppen und
c) Menschen und Arbeit.
Die Mitglieder des Instituts bedienen sich diverser methodische Zugänge (z. B. experimentelle Designs, (längsschnittliche) Befragungsdaten, Ambulatory Assessment, Mehrebenenanalysen, Big Data). Wenn möglich, orientiert sich die Forschung des Instituts an Open Science Prinzipien.
