Am 03.12.2025 um 17:00 Uhr hält Denis O’hora (University of Galway, Irland) einen Gastvortrag an der MSH zum Thema »Noise, Perception, and Acceptance: Understanding Community Reactions to Wind Energy«. Der Vortrag findet im Rahmen des Kolloquiums des Institute of Environmental, Social and Work Psychology (IESW) hybrid statt.
Abstract des Vortrags:
Community acceptance of wind farms plays a key role in the successful deployment of such projects. Wind turbine noise (WTN) is among the foremost community concerns; residents worry that WTN may affect the mental and physical health of those living near wind farms. Annoyance from noise is recognised as an environmental health burden by the World Health Organisation, and there is evidence to suggest that annoyance and sleep disturbance are often associated with WTN. However, the relationship between WTN and negative impacts is unclear since changes in WTN explain relatively little of the variance in WTN experience. Sound experience is complex, especially when the sounds are meaningful, which has implications for understanding and mitigating the negative impacts of WTN. This seminar will introduce these issues and summarise recent and upcoming research at University of Galway on WTN.
