Graduate School at MSH
The doctorate is the starting point of every scientific career. It is the only one degree recognized worldwide in both the academic and business sectors. Offers for doctoral candidates are therefore an important element in the promotion of young scientists at MSH.
The Graduate School is the central service facility of MSH for the promotion of young scientists.
It informs, promotes and networks doctoral students, scientific staff and postdocs of the university and supports the teachers in the individual promotion of junior scientists
The graduate school is assigned a structured doctoral program, in which the specific competences of this qualification phase are supported and the young scientists are optimally trained for an academic career and university leadership positions.

Doctoral Program
Setting up a semester-structured, six-semester doctoral program in which doctoral processes are coordinated, supported is a long-term goal of the MSH. The doctoral program summarized here represents the pilot phase of a future doctoral program, in which program components are made accessible to the doctoral candidates currently researching at the MSH. The doctoral program is aimed at doctoral candidates who work in individual projects, at MSH qualification centers or in third-party funded projects at MSH.
The doctoral program is aimed at:
- Research assistants at a MSH qualification center
- Scientific staff of MSH in a third-party funded research project
- Associate doctoral candidates with doctoral supervisors at the university
- Doctoral candidates from other universities interested in the program components offered

Doctoral Scholarship
In order to give doctoral candidates the economic security and opportunity, to concentrate fully on the doctoral thesis, the MSH also awards doctoral scholarships. There is no legal claim to a doctoral scholarship.Fellows receive a monthly contribution to the cost of living. An application requires students to submit an abstract of the planned doctoral work and subsequent timetable.
Initially, the duration of the funding is for two years. On the basis of an application and a detailed report, the scholarship may be extended thereafter.

Doctorate at the MSH
The MSH does not currently have the right to award doctoral degreees. However, many MSH graduates and graduates from other universities have been doing their doctorate at MSH in cooperation with those universities that have the right to award doctorates. It is planned to submit the application for the right to award doctoral degrees at MSH in the near future.
