As a foundation for your professional decision-making and responsibility skills, through this degree you acquire key psychological skills in general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology as well as psychological diagnostics. You become acquainted with the fundamental methodological qualifications in the areas of research methods and statistics and develop key competencies needed for the full range of applied fields of psychology.
Your cross-professional decision-making and responsibility skills can be acquired in the modules »Ethics in health and medicine« as well as in »Interdisciplinary- and team work in the health care sector«. This relates to the innovative approach MSH embraces to learn and work together and to mutually realize hands-on projects.
Fields of application
The Bachelor degree Applied Psychology specifically deals with the below three fields of application:
- Occupational- and Organizational Psychology
- Health Psychology
- Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy
In all three fields of application you acquire key skills in the foundations, diagnostics and technical intervention processes. Through this study approach you get an in-depth insight into the three specialty areas of psychology and can, based on your interest, make an informed decision about your future career – either you proceed to a Master program or you enter the professional workforce.
In Occupational- and Organizational Psychology you acquire key skills to work in the areas of human resources, consultancy firms, organizational development, market research or work evaluation and –design. You may provide training courses in the area of team development and communication, or conduct workshops on recruitment processes. You might consult managerial positions or set up your own business as a head hunter.
With the subsequent Master degree in economic psychology you specialize in a future-oriented and profitable field of work that provides ample opportunities for your future career. You might want to offer seminars on the realization of the latest management concepts, you may be involved with international recruitment processes in consideration of intercultural attributes, you may work in the area of marketing strategies on the behavioural steering of consumers or you manage the development of sales strategies and product design in line with market- and media psychology.
Besides, during the Bachelor degree Applied Psychologyyou can specialize on workplace health management – another potential strategy to shape your future career. The number of new workplace health management programs is on the rise and qualified staff is needed. To work in this area, you are well equipped with your background in occupational- and organizational psychology as you have acquired an in-depth knowledge in the field. You will also benefit from your applied knowledge and expertise in health psychology.
In the module health psychology you acquire skills needed for the field of prevention, e.g. stress coping mechanisms, smoking cessations or burnout prevention. Qualified staff in these prevention strategies is on demand, based on the demographic changes that our society is experiencing. In line with population-based health promotion and the communal psycho-social approach, skills in health psychology are needed (e.g. in the preparation of campaigns / events). Furthermore, the applied field of rehabilitation psychology – an area closely affiliated with health psychology – also provides options for future work. This areas emphasizes the management of chronic diseases.
The third field of application, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, deals with mental disorders and psychological reactions on life circumstances, changes and losses. Clinical psychologists are often sought after in hospitals and other medical institutions to provide guidance and support for medical doctors, nurses and patients.
