Sebastian Schulz studied biotechnology with a medical focus at the Technical University of Berlin. He completed his thesis at the Center for Biological Safety of the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin. He then worked as a doctoral student at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Braunschweig in the Department of Molecular Bacteriology and earned his doctorate in natural sciences at the Technical University of Braunschweig. His time as a postdoctoral fellow began at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, before moving with the working group to the newly founded Center for Structural Systems Biology on the campus of DESY in Hamburg. Since the winter semester 2019/2020 he works as a research assistant for biochemistry and molecular biology at the Medical School Hamburg.

Sebastian Schulz gained his first teaching experience as a tutor at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he supervised groups of up to 16 pharmacy students for four semesters. In addition, as a student assistant in the field of eLearning, he also developed 20 case studies for exam preparation for students of human medicine at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. As part of his projects as a doctoral student and postdoctoral fellow, he also oversaw international guest doctoral and technical staff.

Research Interests

The research interest of Sebastian Schulz lies in the regulation of cell biological processes, especially in the field of infection biology and thus in medical micro and molecular biology as well as in biochemistry and cell biology. Another focus is the establishment and optimization of biochemical and molecular biological methods in order to gain new research insights. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals in seven publications and his dissertation has been awarded with the Förderpreis of the Arbeitskreis für Biomedizinische Forschung e. V.. In the future, Sebastian Schulz will focus more on teaching chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology as a research associate.
