Roland Weierstall-Pust studied psychology at the Heinrich-Heine-University Duesseldorf between 2003 and 2006. He finished his PhD thesis on the »Development of a 15-item odour discrimination test« in 2009 at the HHU Duesseldorf, supported by a scholarship from the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for freedom. Afterwards, he worked as an assistant professor and academic counselor in the Department of Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Konstanz. He dedicated his research to the understanding of risk and resilience factors for the development of trauma-spectrum disorders in post-conflict areas. In particular, he was involved in the study and conceptualization of Appetitive Aggression, an attraction to violence that is widespread among combatants involved in war atrocities and that has been found to serve as a protective mechanism for the development of trauma-spectrum disorders. In 2014, Roland Weierstall-Pust received his approbation as psychological psychotherapist (cognitive-behavioural therapy). After his postdoctoral lecture qualification (»Habilitation«) at the University of Konstanz in 2015, he was appointed full professor for clinical psychology and psychotherapy (cognitive-behavioural therapy) at the MSH. Besides his university position, Roland Weierstall-Pust works as a psychotherapist and counselor for the development of stress-prevention programs. He is also lecturer and the Hafencity Institute for Psychotherapy.

Since 2009, Roland Weierstall-Pust gives lectures and seminars in clinical psychology and psychotherapeutic interventions. One key aspect focuses on linking scientific and practical professional aspects in order to adequately prepare his students for their future careers in the health sector.
