Biography

Professor Morgenroth studied psychology at the Technical University of Berlin. He then worked at the Free University of Berlin and completed his doctoral studies in 1999 at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Following, he worked at the Technical University Chemnitz where he did his Habilitation (equiv. post-doc dissertation) and was awarded the venia legendi for the subject psychology. He continued with ad interim professorships in the field of organisational- and social psychology at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and at the Technical University Dresden. Since October 2010, he is professor for health psychology at MSH Medical School Hamburg.

Teaching

Olaf Morgenroth was involved in teaching from 1998-2010 at the Technical University of Chemnitz, the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the Technical University Dreseden covering the subjects health psychology, social psychology, occupational- and organizational psychology and research methods of psychology. At MSH Medical School Hamburg he teaches health psychology and research methods.

Research focus

Research key interests include:

  • Health-related aspects of the handling of time. Key findings of this research were published in 2008 in the Monography ‘Zeit und Handeln. Psychologie der Zeitbewältigung‘. The research was funded by the German Research Foundation.
  • Handling of fault and failure: regulation of negative emotions, learning by mistakes, self-compassion. Recent publication: Losses loom larger than gains. Wie nützlich sind psychologische Theorien für den Umgang mit Niederlagen?
  • Health-related constructs of culturally comparative perspectives. Recent publication: Petersen, Dünnbier, & Morgenroth, O. (2012) Ethnic identity and Ethnicity-related stress in accompanied and unaccompanied adolescent immigrants: Does the family work as social capital for adolescent immigrants?

Olaf Morgenroth is member of the German Society for Psychology (DGP) and the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP).

He is reviewer of several academic journals and he presents his latest research findings at various national and international congresses and conferences.
