Biography

Dr. Sandra Amatriain Fernández completed her Bachelor program in Sports Science and Physical Activity at the University of A Coruña (Spain). Afterwards she continued her education in the pedagogic field at the Camilo José Cela University in Madrid (Spain) where she received a Diploma in Physical Education Teaching as well as a Master in Compulsory Secondary Education. The next step in her professional career was achieved with the obtention of the Doctor title in Sports Science, Physical Education, and Healthy Physical Activity at the University of A Coruña.

During her studies, she combined the theory with several related jobs such as lifeguard, gym, swimming, & handball instructor, and teacher of support programs, after-school classes, and English, among others.

Her connection with the MSH began in 2017 with a research stay under the supervision of Prof. Henning Budde. In order to deepen the collaboration, she completed another research stay in 2018. 

Since April 2020, she works as a research assistant for the MSH with Prof. Henning Budde. She has worked on several publications as well as funding applications.

Her main field of research is exercise and health. In her thesis, she studied the benefits of different exercise interventions on the inhibitory control of children and adolescents. Besides, she focuses on the benefits of exercise at a psychological level (in disorders such as depression) and the capacity to strengthen the immune system by exercise.
