Sebastian Trautmann studied Psychology at the Technical University of Dresden. During his studies, he worked in the long-term therapy of addictive disorders in Vienna / Lower Austria. After graduation, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, where he earned his doctorate in 2015. He then proceeded to the Institute for Behavioral Epidemiology at the Technical University of Dresden. In addition to his research-based work, he completed training as a Psychological Psychotherapist (VT). Since October 2018, Sebastian Trautmann has been a professor of clinical psychology and psychotherapy with a focus on behavioral therapy at the Medical School Hamburg.
In the context of numerous seminars and lectures, Sebastian Trautmann taught undergraduate and graduate students of clinical psychology, including topics such as trauma-related disorders, clinical diagnostics, health psychology and relaxation techniques. In 2016, he was a lecturer in clinical psychology in the social work study program at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. At the Medical School Hamburg, Sebastian Trautmann teaches into clinical diagnostics.
The primary research interest of Sebastian Trautmann is understanding the effects of stress and traumatic events on the development and treatment of mental disorders. A key objective of his work is the identification of risk factors for mental disorders following stressful events based on psychological, social and biological characteristics as well as the investigation of underlying mechanisms. He uses both epidemiological and experimental research techniques. His research on the mechanisms of stress and alcohol consumption was honored by Norddeutsche Suchtforschungsverbund and the European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism.
Sebastian Trautmann is co-editor of the International Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research (IJMPR), review editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry and associate editor for the Journal of European Psychology Students Initiative. He also works as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous national and international journals. Sebastian Trautmann is a member of the Department of Clinical Psychology of the German Society for Psychology and the German Association of Psychotherapists.
