Dr. Mathias Kauff worked as a research assistant at Philipps-Universität Marburg in 2009 after completing his diploma studies in psychology. He graduated there in 2013 as a scholarship holder in the interdisciplinary DFG Research Training Group »Group-focused Enmity« of the Universities of Marburg and Bielefeld (Dr. rer. Nat.). Thereafter, he continued to work at the Philipps-University Marburg until 2015 as a research associate and postdoctoral fellow of the Research Training Group »Group-focused Enmity«. In 2014, he interrupted his work in Marburg and stayed for six months as a visiting scholar and fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Oxford. During his time in Marburg and Oxford, Mathias Kauff worked on numerous basic and applied research projects. With the help of his own DFG project Dr. Kauff change to the FernUniversität in Hagen in 2015. He completed his DFG project in 2019. Also in 2019 he habilitated and received the teaching permission for psychology. Since October 2019 Mathias Kauff is substitute professor for social psychology at the Medical School Hamburg. 

Teaching Activities

Since 2009, Dr. Mathias Kauff has gained teaching experience in psychology, teaching as well as in peace and conflict studies. He designed and directed various tutorials, empirical internships, seminars and lectures in the fields of social psychology, business psychology and psychological methodology. By working at a distance learning university, Mathias Kauff dealt intensively with blended learning approaches. At the Medical School Hamburg Dr. med. Kauff events in the field of social psychology in the bachelor programs psychology and applied psychology. 

Research Interests

The research focus of Dr. med. Mathias Kauff is in the area of ​​intergroup relations. He researches prejudice and discrimination, intergroup contact, attitudes to diversity and social identities. In his research, Mathias Kauff uses different methodological approaches and is guided by open science principles.
