Professor Steffen Gramminger studied human medicine at the University of Heidelberg. Following his approbation he worked for six years as surgical assistant medical doctor. In 2000, he accepted the role of Medical Controller in the protestant hospital Bad Dürkheim and supported - in line with his EFQM-assessor training – the quality management. Since 2001, he leads the patient management of both hospital institutions in Bad Dürkheim and Zweibrücken of the Landesvereins für Innere Mission in the Pfalz. Since 2003, he convoys the position of Deputy Administrative Director and since 2011 he was Administrative Director in Bad Dürkheim and was CEO of the medical health care center. From 2012-2014, he managed the two hospitals of the Landesverein. From 2014 to 2018, Professor Gramminger was the Medical Director of Klinikum Darmstadt GmbH. In September 2018 he moved to the Hessian Hospital Society and since then has been working as Managing Director.

In spring 2007, he completed the Master degree Management of Health- and Social Services at the Technical University Kaiserslautern in cooperation with the University Witten/Herdecke and graduated with a Master of Arts.

He is a founding member and has long been chairman of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizincontrolling e.V. (German Society for Medical Controlling). In 2016, he was awarded the honorary membership. Ever since, he is involved in teaching seminars, continuing education modules with a focus on medical controlling and MDK-Management. Currently, he sits in a number of advisory boards and presents at numerous academic conferences.
