Professor Sascha Marrakchi studied psychology at the University of Hamburg from 2000-2006 and graduated as Diplom-Psychologe (M.Sc. equiv. Psych.). In July 2010, he completed his doctoral degree at the University of Bielefeld, his thesis titled “Individuelle Leistungsprofile in Screening-Verfahren zur Demenzdiagnostik bei Alzheimer-, Morbus Parkinson- und Lewy-Körperchen-Erkrankten” (equiv. “Individual performance profiles in screening procedures on dementia diagnostics in patients with alzheimer, morbus, parkinson and lewy body dementia” (Dr. rer. nat.). Since May 2006, Professor Marrakchi works as psychologist in the Asklepios Clinic Barmbek in the Department of Neurology – Neuropsychological Diagnostics. Two years in the role, he resumed the management of the memory consultation in the neurological department of the Asklepios Clinic Barmbek. Since 2011 he also manages the Asklepios Clinic Altona. Besides, Professor Marrakchi is managing neuropsychologist at AK Barmbek and since October 2012 he is psychologist in the gerontological department in Asklepios Clinic Rissen in line with a liaison service.

In October 2012, Professor Marrakchi completed the examination to practice as psychological psychotherapist.


Since 2006, Professor Marrakchi teaches PJ students in the field of neuropsychology. From 2010-2012 he tutored psychiatry students at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. He is involved with teaching at MSH Medical School Hamburg since 2012.

Research Focus

Professor Sascha Marrakchi’s research emphasis lies in the area of gerontopsychology, focusing on dementia-type illnesses and topographic orientation. He was involved in the alzheimer studies, phases II and III (LZAN, LZAO), in a study on the cognition in epileptic patients above 65 years (MESS-study), in research on stroke therapy (DIAS, phase II) and in the ROSA study (Memantine and quality of life phase IV).
