Biography

Professor Björn Hauptmann studied human medicine at the University of the Saarland in Homburg/Saar and at the Free University Berlin. From 1993-1997 he worked as assistant doctor in the clinic Berlin, department for neurological rehabilitation at the Free University Berlin. During this time, he also completed a training in psychiatry at the Wenckebach Hospital in Berlin-Tempelhof and undertook further training in social medicine. In 1997, he completed his doctoral studies at the Free University in Berlin, titled »Motorisch evozierte Potentiale in zentral paretischen Handmuskeln. Ein Vergleich verschiedener krankengymnastischer Fazilitationsverfahren« (equiv. Motor-based, evoked potential in central paretic muscles of the hand. A comparison of different physiotherapeutic facilitation procedures).  In the same year, he moved to the clinic for neurology at the Charité (one of the largest university hospitals in Europe) and continued with further education modules in neurological intensive medicine, clinical geriatry and social medicine. From 2005-2014, he was chief physician at the neurological centre of the Segeberg clinics. Since January 2015, he is chief physician in the specialist clinic for Parkinson and mobility disorders and deputy chief physician of the neurological centre of the Segeberg Clinics.
