Biography

Imanuel Schipper is a dramaturge, curator and theater and performance scholar. In his more than 20 years of artistic practice, he worked among others with Jérôme Bel, Luk Perceval, William Forsythe, Ruedi Häusermann, Nicolas Stemann, Sandra Strunz and again and Rimini Protokoll. He co-designed the master degree "Theater" at the Zurich University of the Arts. At the Institute for Critical Theory (ZHdK) at the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) funded research projects on the topics of "authenticity on stage" and "shaping public possibilities in urban spaces through interventions". The question of functions of the arts in and for society is at the core of Imanuel Schipper's work interests. He has several international and interdisciplinary conferences that are at the interface of art, science and society. Imanuel Schipper gives (and gave) seminars in dramaturgy, performance studies, transdisciplinarity and critical thinking at the HfbK Hamburg, the FU Berlin, the LMU Müchen, the ZHdK Zürich, the University of St. Gallen, the Copenhagen Business School and many other universities. At the Leuphana University Lüneburg he worked as a research associate at the Digital Center Research Laboratory on "Performing the Digital". He is currently working as a dramaturge on a tetralogy on post-democratic phenomena (states 1-4) and is writing his dissertation on "Relational Dramaturgies".
