Biography

Oliver Krüger studied philosophy and german language and literature studies at the University of Hamburg. From 2012-2015 he was a scholar of the interdisciplinary graduate group of graduates „Modellierung und normative Bewertung kollektiver Entscheidungen“, (~Modellation and normative assessment of collective decision-making) which was founded in line with the emerging researcher initiative by the University of Hamburg. In this group, Oliver Krüger was Academic Staff from 2015-2016 and developed a research proposal for the German Research Foundation. Besides, he worked as Academic Staff for the Max Uwe Redler Foundation to support a review committee in the appointment of the German Award for Philosophy and Social Ethics 2014. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled „Eine perfektionistische Grundlegung des Sozialstaats” („summa cum laude“) (~A perfectionist foundation of the social welfare state) in November 2016. Since October 2016, Oliver Krüger is Academic Staff at MSH Medical School Hamburg, teaching Social Sciences and Ethics. 

Teaching

Several tutorial roles in Logics, Ethics, and Political Philosophy.

Research Focus

  • Political philosophy and social philosophy: theory of justice, theories of the social welfare state, theories of freedom, political perfectionism, governmental paternalism, governmental neutrality, critical theory, and methodology and political philosophy.
  • Ethics: the Good and the correct things in life, virtue ethics and specific questions on applied ethics (e.g. medical ethics, child-related ethics, education, disabilities and work)
  • Social politics: demography, inclusion, societal approaches with work, social care and poverty
