Verena Blank-Gorki graduated in Social Sciences from the University of Mannheim. Here, she worked during and after her studies both at the Chair of Methods of Empirical Social Research and at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research. As part of her thesis, she became acquainted with the topic of psychosocial emergency care (PSNV). In 2007, she proceeded to the department »Psychosocial Crisis Management« at the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance. Here, she was responsible for various areas of quality assurance and research on PSNV until 2015. As a research associate at the University of Bonn, Ms. Blank-Gorki investigated questions of »knowledge management in civil protection«. She then accepted a role at MSH and works here as a research assistant in the research project »Child and Disaster« under the direction of Professor Harald Karutz. Ms. Blank-Gorki is head of the Academy for Crisis Intervention at the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) Munich / Upper Bavaria.
Verena Blank-Gorki teaches into various aspects of psychosocial emergency care. For several years, she has been the corresponding lecturer in the study programs Disaster Risk Management (KaVoMa) at the University of Bonn and Risk and Safety Management at the University of Public Administration in Bremen. As head of the Academy for Crisis Intervention at ASB, she designs and teaches across the entire spectrum of PSNV.
Her primary research focuses on psychosocial care research for children and adolescents. She is also interested in the systematic evaluation of operations in psychosocial emergency care. In addition, she is interested in generating evidence-based knowledge on the topics of school shootings and ethics.
