Biography

Professor Christoph Geilen studied medicine (1979-1986) and chemistry/biochemistry (1982-1988) at the Free University Berlin (FU Berlin). In 1986 he was awarded medical approbation, in 1988 he received his doctoral degree in human medicine and in 1993 in chemistry.

From 1988-1993, Professor Geilen worked as academic staff at the Institute for Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the FU Berlin. During this time, he undertook two stays abroad: one at the University of Milan and another one at Purdue University in West Lafayette/USA. From 1993-1996 he worked as academic staff and research assistant at the Clinic- and Polyclinic for Dermatology of the University Medicine Department Benjamin Franklin at the FU Berlin.

In 1997, Christoph Geilen became specialist for dermatology and venerology and received his award as assistant medical director at the Clinic- and Polyclinic for Dermatology of the University Medicine Department Benjamin Franklin at the FU Berlin. Two years in, he completed his Habilitation (equiv. post doc dissertation) in the field of dermatology and venerology in the Department Human Medicine at the FU Berlin. In 2000, he was announced extraordinary professor.

From 2000 – 2004, Professor Geilen was assistant medical director and associate rector at the Clinic- and Polyclinic for Dermatology of the University Medicine Department Benjamin Franklin at the FU Berlin. From 2004-2005 he was assistant medical director for the Clinic for Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology at the Charité Medical University Berlin.

Since 2005, Christoph Geilen runs a private praxis for dermatology, venerology and allergology in Berlin (Dermatologie am Kurfürstendamm). From 2006-2011 he has worked as external commissionary representative for the Department Biochemistry of the Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg.  

In 2006, Professor Geilen became managerial shareholder of the CCG Berlin GmbH an in 2013 he became managerial shareholder of the Glycana UG.

From 2013-2015 Professor Geilen was Dean at the Faculty of Life Sciences at MSH Medical School Hamburg. Since 2015, he is Vice Rector for Teaching and Learning at MSH.

Teaching

Professor Geilen gained valuable teaching experience at the FU Berlin and at the medical faculty Mannheim at the University of Heidelberg. Further to this, he has been involved in various supervisory roles (M.Sc., MD, PhD) and was member in professorial selection committees at FU Berlin, Charité, and University of Heidelberg and at the University of Magdeburg.
